Maxim Integrated's Response to COVID-19

CEO Message

A Message from Our CEO

Right now, we’re all sharing a unique moment in history due to COVID-19.

Our hearts are saddened by the unsettling headlines we see every day. But we’ve been inspired by so many who are doing so much to fight COVID-19. To those doctors, nurses, first responders, and so many others, we say thank you. Your actions remind us that challenging times often bring out the best in people.

Even though we aren’t on the front lines, we’re all committed to answering the call and doing our part in this battle. Over the past six weeks, it’s been our mission to harness Maxim’s resources to combat COVID-19. Our focus has been on keeping our employees safe and helping those who need our assistance most.

Protecting Employee Well-Being

Our priority has been to protect our employees from exposure and infection. We swiftly closed many offices. We supported and enabled work from home, rolling out productivity tools to keep employees connected. We added a new paid leave for those who are unable to work due to COVID-19. And we’ve continued to pay employees in closed offices who have jobs that can only be done onsite. In offices where essential work continues, attendance is optional to the employee, and we practice social distancing, issue daily health screenings, deep clean and disinfect often, and provide protective gear.

Fast-Tracking Life-Saving Medical Equipment Orders

On the customer front, we adjusted our manufacturing capacity to prioritize those products used in medical equipment for diagnosing and treating COVID-19. Maxim technologies can be found in:

  • Virus detection devices
  • Ultrasound equipment
  • Analytical/laboratory equipment
  • Ventilators
  • Patient remote monitoring devices
  • Intravenous blood monitors
  • Temperature loggers for critical COVID-19 drugs
  • Pulse oximeters
  • Remote patient/IR thermometers
  • Blood glucose meters for diabetics
  • Anesthesia machines
  • Disposable patches for blood pressure

We knew this decision would make a difference to healthcare workers and patients, and many of our customers and partners agreed it was the right thing to do.

Giving Back to Local Communities

To help individuals and families impacted by this virus, we’ve supported numerous relief efforts. Our teams donated N95 masks to hospitals in Portland and Silicon Valley and distributed personal protective equipment for front-line workers in Cavite, Philippines. We’ve donated 6,600 food packs to feed families in the Cavite region so far and will continue to help them throughout the pandemic. At our headquarters in San Jose, California, employees and the Company are donating to Second Harvest of Silicon Valley. And our Give.Care.Do. program continually funds employee requests to organizations dedicated to COVID-19 relief.

Looking towards the future, our engineering teams will continue to partner with medical customers on lifesaving products, including telemetry for remote measurement of vital signs to reduce contagion exposure for both healthcare workers and patients. Our operations teams will do everything within their control to keep our supply chain operating at a level to best support our customers. Our employees, known for their big ideas and even bigger hearts, will continue their acts of kindness and generosity.

We don’t know when this pandemic will end, but one thing is for certain: every little bit of inspiration and hope will help us get through it together. Thank you for fighting this battle with us.

Maxim Responds

Answering the Call to Help Maxim Integrated Customers Innovate in Our New World

As we all do our part to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, one quote stands out in my mind: “Change means discomfort—in stopping the old ways and doing things differently.” This statement comes from Dr. John Kotter, a Harvard Business School professor and leading authority on leadership and change. And in the face of this pandemic, the sentiment rings true for many of us.

Healthcare Solutions

The following table is a summary of our health sensor ICs (and associated algorithms) which enable accurate measurement of human vital signs at different body locations.

The table also includes reference designs which we have created to accelerate the development and evaluation of new algorithms and use cases for our health sensor ICs in emerging critical healthcare applications.

Our products satisfy the heightened criteria required for categorization under the heading of “Digital Medicine”, defined by the FDA as “evidence-based software and/or hardware products that measure and/or intervene in the service of human health”. Clinical evidence is required for all digital medicine products, the purpose and function of which determine the appropriate level of regulatory oversight. Example of products that fall within this category include:

  • Remote Patient Monitoring
  • Digital Diagnostics
  • Decision Support Software
  • Digital Measurement and Intervention

This is demonstrated by our ability to supply all of the component ICs required to build a comprehensive Remote Patient Monitoring Patch to provide clinicians with the ability to continuously monitor a patient’s vital signs, allowing for speedier medical intervention if necessary.
